1940 Captured on the High Seas
Cancelled MELBOURNE 430AM 25 MAY 1940 VICTORIA
The endorsements Schedule 2 Page 3 and W 37212 normally appear on mail from captured enemy ships, or from neutral ships bound for enemy ports. They are Admiralty filing numbers. Such mail usually ended up in the Prize Court but this cover was apparently released as it has no Admiralty Marshal’s number
This item may have been returned under cover to the sender. By the time it had been through the Admiralty system the Germans had occupied Sevres (about 24 June 1940)
